The DevOps approach describes such an approach, which promotes trusting cooperation between development and IT operations managers to manage the complexity of software architectures in development and operations.

Development teams cannot always define their infrastructure completely autonomously, but are supported by a separate operations department. However, it is precisely at this interface between development and IT operations that communication often breaks down. It may be necessary to split it into independent deployment units that can, at best, follow their own release cycle. This makes the teams more independent and allows them to continue to benefit from the potential of their rapid deployment capability.

The complexity of the release process is reduced again and supports the teams in their agile development process. The basis for a decomposition into separate deployment units by building a microservice architecture is almost always a functional modularisation within the monolith.
