Cypress in action
The open-source tool Cypress was originally launched as an alternative to Selenium in the area of end-2-end tests in web development. In the meantime, with component testing, it also fills the gap between unit and end-2-end tests in web development, which was previously only inadequately filled, i.e. in component and integration tests.
If you let Cypress Component Tests into your project, you quickly automate not only component tests, but also unit tests. They thus offer themselves as a replacement for typical unit test tools for web applications such as Jest or Karma. Cypress is thus establishing itself, at least in web front-end development, as an automation tool for all test stages, from unit to end-2-end tests.
The presentation will first introduce Cypress as a tool for end-2-end tests and then show how Cypress Component Tests facilitate the test-driven development of UI components - in a very practical way using an example application. How existing tests are migrated is also shown. An evaluation of Cypress in comparison to other test tools for web front-end development concludes the lecture.
