Cypress everywhere - A single automation tool for all test levels?!
The open source tool Cypress was originally launched as an alternative to Selenium in the area of end-2-end testing in web development. With component testing, it now also fills the gap between unit and end-2-end tests in web development, which was previously only insufficiently filled, i.e. in component and integration tests.
If you integrate CypressComponenttests into your project, you can quickly automate not only component tests, but also unit tests . This makesCypress a suitable replacement for typical unit test tools for web applications such as Jest or Karma, establishing Cypress as an automation tool for all test stages, from unit to end-2-end tests, at least in front-end development .
Can Cypress really replace the small zoo of tools used to date like a Swiss army knife? We have tried it out and report on our positive experiences, but also on the limits we encountered. Among other things, we show how easily existing tests can be migrated and have evaluated which is faster and more stable under which conditions, the unit tests in Jest or those in Cypress.
