Unravelling a classic specification with domain storytelling
For a fixed-price project in the context of drones, the client created a classic specification with a lot of prose text but few diagrams and images. At the same time, there was a great openness to carry out the implementation with agile approaches and to let in the previously unknown domain storytelling. By deriving TARGET scenarios from the technical domain of the requirements specification, the basis for a common understanding was created by means of an end-to-end scenario. Using this scenario as a starting point for discussions, potential sub-domains DDD were broken down step by step, then user stories were identified and concretised by extracting requirements from the specifications. This approach helped to structure all the requirements and define the stages of expansion.
Benefits for the participant:
- A brief introduction to domain storytelling
- Concrete examples of the use of the tool in requirements clarification (e.g. from prose to pictures) and their transformation for software development
- The use of the open source tool Domain Story Modeler Egon.io for developing and "stepping through" scenario diagrams
- To playfully communicate a common understanding to a wide variety of stakeholders
Problems dealt with:
How do I quickly get a structured, simple overview in a (prose) specification ?
How can all stakeholders easily understand the problem space and design the solution space ?
How can I support product development decision making for different stakeholder groups ?
Presentation language: German
Level: Beginners
Target group: Product owners (m/f/d), business analysts, developers, managers
