Domain Storytelling-Understanding Your Users by Drawing Pictures
Misunderstandings between developers and the company are a plague. Poor communication causes projects to fail.
This presentation offers a remedy. The highlight of the presentation is a practical demonstration with the audience as interview partners.
Domain storytelling is a technique for translating expertise into effective business software. It brings domain experts and development teams together to:
- (a) Understand the domain of a software system,
- (b) find the boundaries of microservices and
- (c) talk about requirements.
We let subject matter experts tell us stories about their tasks. As we listen, we record the stories in easy-to-understand, pictographic language.
The subject matter experts can immediately recognise whether we have understood their story correctly. After a few stories, we are able to talk about the people, processes and events in the field.
The talk is aimed at anyone involved or interested in software development, including non-technical people.
