Domain Storytelling - Understanding Your Users By Drawing Pictures
Misunderstandings between developers and the company are a plague. Poor communication causes projects to fail. This presentation offers a remedy. The highlight of the presentation is a practical demonstration with the audience as interview partners.
Domain storytelling is a technique for translating expertise into effective business software. It brings domain experts and development teams together to: (a) understand the domain of a software system, (b) find the boundaries of microservices, and (c) talk about requirements.
We let subject matter experts tell us stories about their tasks. As we listen, we record the stories in easy-to-understand, pictographic language.
The subject matter experts can immediately recognise whether we have understood their story correctly. After a few stories, we are able to talk about the people, processes and events in the field.
The talk is aimed at anyone involved or interested in software development, including non-technical people.
