And the winner is... our team of female students!
HTW Computer Science Prize 2025 goes to team of female students supervised by WPS
WPS was not only represented with a stand at today's Computer Science Day at the Berlin University of Applied Sciences (HTW) - there was also a double reason to celebrate: the team supervised by WPS was nominated for the HTW Computer Science Prize with its project - and was voted the winner by the students present.
The award-winning project was developed as part of a study project in cooperation with WPS and had a specific goal: the development of a native Android app for admission management at the Berlinale.
Digital solution for an international film festival
The app is part of the BerlinalX system, which supports the planning and realisation of the Berlin International Film Festival - Berlinale. One of the main challenges was to make admission to the numerous events more efficient and robust. The process previously used via a web app with a smartphone camera had reached its limits - especially in difficult lighting conditions or with high visitor numbers.
The system developed replaces the web app with a powerful native scanner app that was specially designed for the Berlinale's admission staff. With intuitive operation and a direct connection to the existing backend, employees can
Conveniently select venues and dates,
start live ticketing and scan QR codes,
immediately recognise whether a ticket is valid (green) or access is denied (red),
communicate clearly with displayed error messages,
and admit guests manually via a stored list.
A special function is the ability to overbook rooms if required - to efficiently fill vacant seats if guests leave events early.
