Understanding, managing and explaining technical debt to the business

How do I explain technical debt to my business colleagues or customers? You first need to understand technical debt yourself. What are the causes and consequences of technical debt and how are they connected? Only then can you explain the problems surrounding technical debt better and more concisely and convince the business that it is worth investing time in the topic. But this already raises the next question: How do I manage technical debt and what does that mean? It is clear that technical debt cannot be avoided and that it is also an effective management tool for delivering features on time, for example. Ultimately, it always comes down to two essential questions:

• Should I take on this technical debt or not?
• Should I repay this technical debt or not?
