WPS is a bicycle-friendly employer
Since 2017, the Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club (ADFC) has been awarding the EU-wide "Bicycle-Friendly Employer" certification. Now WPS - Workplace Solutions GmbH in Hamburg has been awarded the coveted "Gold" seal.
Sara Tsudome, project manager at the ADFC federal association, says: "WPS supports employees who cycle to work with many different measures. This has many advantages: The employer can score points in terms of company health, environmental and mobility management."
What characterises a bicycle-friendly employer?
Bicycle-friendly employers save resources and use finances wisely: Bicycle parking is cheaper on balance and requires less space than car parking spaces. Getting employees on bikes benefits them in several ways. Regular exercise has been proven to improve health and increase motivation.
To encourage more employees to cycle, you can organise your own teams to take part in campaigns such as "City Cycling". Regular activities such as a "cyclists' breakfast", individual route advice or company outings by bike get colleagues involved. Of course, it is important that everyone can park their bikes safely, dryly and, if possible, at ground level. Changing facilities and showers are also rated favourably. Certification is also rewarded if, in addition to job tickets for public transport, there are also discounts for those who commute by bike.
Importance for employee health - and for sustainability
Companies that systematically promote cycling and are certified are winners: if more people cycle to work, this prevents a lack of exercise. People who cycle to work have on average a third fewer sick days - and a lower risk of infection.
Bicycle-friendly measures contribute to corporate environmental management and are an essential part of sustainable mobility management - because employee mobility is also part of thecarbon footprint. And attractive cycling offers also count in the competition for skilled labour.
