UDVeo

Organising urban drone traffic efficiently (UDVeo)

UDVeo (Organising Urban Drone Traffic Efficiently) is a project funded by the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure with a three-year duration 2020-2022.

Numerous partners from research and industry are involved in the project: https: //udveo.eu/kons/

DB Engineering & Consulting and the UDVeo project funded by the BMVI are jointly researching practical solutions for integrating drones into U-Space.

The project goal

The safe and efficient coordination of drone traffic

The aim of UDVeo is the research and prototypical development of an official (or officially authorised) control centre for the safe and efficient coordination of drone traffic.

The prototype will enable all essential processes of drone coordination, i.e. operator and drone registration, flight clearance as well as strategic and tactical conflict management.

The integration of drone traffic with manned aviation, especially helicopters, will also be taken into account.

The concept of the control centre

The design of control station solutions must ensure an appropriate division of labour between man and machine. In previous research projects, WPS has developed concepts on how a division of tasks according to respective strengths makes sense and how humans and machines can cooperate.

WPS has applied this knowledge in designing the degree of automation of the application and approval processes for drone flights and the development of a drone control centre. The usability of the software tools plays a decisive role in the design of control centre systems, as this has an enormous influence on operational safety.

In recent years, WPS has expanded the software development process to include a usability process and has developed solutions for how both processes interact in agile projects.
