DELEGS - Deutsch lernen mit GebärdenSchrift is the website of the project "Learning written language for the deaf with Web 2.0 techniques". The aim of the project is to promote the German language skills of deaf people in order to give them better opportunities in their professional and private lives.
We are actively supporting this project by developing software that supports the learning process.
GebärdenSchrift is a writing system that can be used to record sign language. GebärdenSchrift consists of easy-to-understand symbols that represent hand shapes, movements, execution points and various mimic expressions of gestures.
SignWriting pictures illustrate individual gestures and, as the examples show, are easy to understand. With GebärdenSchrift we build a bridge between German sign language and German written language.
The delegs editor is an online platform for creating texts in sign language. It is free of charge and can be used without installation. The delegs editor enables the exchange of documents in SignWriting. In the classroom, it is an ideal tool for comparing German and sign language. Its dictionary currently contains around 23,000 sign language entries.
