Final theses by our students

"The WPS was founded in November 1999 as a spin-off of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Hamburg." Many WPS employees continued to teach, research and publish(see publications) at the Software Engineering Department (AB SWT ) for many years after the WPS was founded. During this time, numerous scientific theses related to WPS topics were written. "Practical research" was the motto of AB SWT.

"Research-orientated practice" was and is the motto of the WPS. That is why we still enthusiastically supervise our students' theses on WPS topics.

Activate and monitor DJI drone flights in the USSP

The EU U-Space Regulation creates a legal framework for drone air traffic that requires drone pilots to interact with U-Space Service Providers. This paper presents a procedure to conduct drone flights in accordance with this regulation by transmitting telemetry data to a USSP and by adapting a Spring Boot project to develop a working prototype system that has been successfully tested with a DJI drone.

The automated test pyramid - a metric study

This thesis deals with the test strategy of the automated test pyramid. The aim is to analyse the test pyramid in order to work out the underlying core ideas and to compile a set of metrics with which these core ideas can be examined for their validity.

Concept and prototypical implementation for minimally invasive collision avoidance of drones and BOS helicopters in U-Space

The increasing number of drone flights and the enactment of the U-Space Ordinance require a collision avoidance strategy for drones and helicopters in U-Space. The coordination and monitoring of air traffic in this area is a complex task that must take into account several factors such as traffic flow, safety and economic feasibility.

Architectural analysis of single-page applications with a focus on component relationships.

In this work, architecture analyses are carried out on selected single-page applications. The software architecture of the applications is examined, i.e. the basic organisation, represented by building blocks and their relationships to each other. The aim is to give a recommendation for action with regard to the requirements for static code analysis, which forms the basis of an architecture analysis.

Create a safety process for onboarding and offboarding employees with tool support.

In an increasingly digitalised world, in which more and more data is transmitted and stored via IT systems, information security, which is supposed to protect this data, is rapidly gaining in importance. Especially in smaller companies that are ¨ growing, this task often does not receive enough attention.

3D drone control centre: Remote control of a drone via a 3D scene based on geodata.

The possible uses of drones are increasing as their technology advances. Only the control system seems to be closed off from this development. The 3D drone control centre aims to change this.

Evelyn Fischer Development of a drone control adapter for connection to control centres.

The prototype of a software is presented and developed that makes it possible to control drones using simple commands from control stations. Specific knowledge about controlling drones using remote controls thus becomes obsolete.

Conception of a fail-safe scenario of drones under consideration of ethical aspects.

In recent years, the use of drones or Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) has become increasingly common. They are no longer used exclusively for military purposes, but are also used in hobby sports as well as in business to fulfil a wide range of tasks.

A modelling approach for the redesign of application landscapes.

Application landscapes must be changed profoundly again and again in order to adapt them to technical, legal and economic boundary conditions. Changes to software systems often have an impact on business processes. In order to successfully redesign an application landscape, the connections between its architecture and its use must be understood.

Comparison of the architectural styles Domain-driven Design and Tool & Material Approach using the example of a system for construction site coordination.

Software should support, facilitate, automate or even eliminate business processes in a company and replace them with new ones. Understanding business processes and modelling them is one of the biggest challenges in software development.

Gamification in WAM using the example of the delegs project.

The delegs project (short for Deutsch lernen mit GebärdenSchrift, see chapter 3) tries to include deaf people in the world of work. Unfortunately, there are some challenges in the project, such as gaining new users for the delegs system.

Supporting rescue workers with smartwatches.

The organisers of large events have to guarantee emergency medical care and commission organisations such as the German Red Cross in this regard. Accompanying the rescue forces at large events led to the conclusion that the correct location of one's own site and finding areas of operation represent a considerable effort.

Reality-based interaction in the port control centre.

The Nautical Headquarters of the Port of Hamburg regulates and monitors shipping traffic in one of the largest and most important seaports in the world. When planning manoeuvres, charts with information on water depth play a crucial role. Updating and handling the still paper-based charts is complicated and is to be simplified with the help of a digital application.

Control rooms are complex control systems in which operators control and monitor industrial plants. The high degree of automation in today's industrial plants is increasingly displacing operators from the technical process and reducing their role to passive spectators.

Development of a sign editor under usability aspects - from German sign language via signwriting to German.

Deaf people have great difficulty learning German. To support them, their mother tongue, sign language, can be written down with SignScript and compared to German. In order to convert individual signs into SignScript and use them digitally, a software tool, a sign editor, is needed.

Automated checking of architecture rules at development time.

In this thesis, an approach is developed to describe different views of the target architecture of a software system and to automatically compare them with the actual structures in the code (actual architecture). The comparison takes place via an extension directly in the development environment.

Complexity of software architectures, styles and strategies.

In software engineering, a comprehensive repertoire of architectural concepts and architectural styles already exists to alleviate the complexity of software architectures. Nevertheless, many projects fail and development teams complain that their software system is no longer maintainable and evolvable.
